For Samsung, the past few months has been nothing short of interesting. The firm has had its share of highs, as the South Korean company will likely be confirming record-setting numbers for the second quarter of 2012.
A lot of this is due to the Galaxy S3, the manufacturer’s newest flagship phone. It’s been an instant hit upon release, and American buyers don’t seem to mind the fact they won’t be getting the same quad-core power, international Galaxy S3 users are getting.
It does appear to be a good time indeed to be on Sammy’s side.
But then again, it isn’t all warm and fuzzy for Samsung these days. Recent patent battles with Apple have favored the American company, and two recent injunctions against Samsung have had the folks at Cupertino celebrating good times.
The first injunction is related to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 supposedly imitating the iPad’s unique design, while the second pertains to the Galaxy Nexus infringing on Apple’s “unified search” patent. Google, which shares branding with Samsung on the Galaxy Nexus, has offered its assistance, and thanks to some tweaks to the handset’s search feature, there may soon be a workaround to prevent the supposed patent infringement on future Galaxy Nexus releases.
In case you haven’t heard yet, Samsung earned a small victory in their ongoing patent tussle with Apple when a stay of the Galaxy Nexus sales ban was approved by US courts. The courts are still waiting for Apple to take further action, so in the meantime, buyers can go to the Google Play store and purchase an unlocked version of the GSM Galaxy Nexus.
The Galaxy Nexus costs $349 for an unlocked version, and while it still ships with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, an update to 4.1 Jelly Bean shouldn’t be too far away from now.
